The rank is submitted before final results are calculated

Your school course group completes its assessment program and the school submits assessment information to NESA. Students can access their assessment rank through Students Online after the written exams. NESA does not publish the final school assessment marks submitted by the school as a separate pre-results figure.

What to check when ranks appear

Check that the course list and rank shown in Students Online match the courses you completed and the position your school communicated. A rank is a relative position in that school course group, not a mark estimate or exam rank. If something looks inconsistent, raise it with your school promptly while the review process is available.

What changes on results day

Your results notice brings together the assessment mark, exam mark, HSC mark and performance band. Read them together: the assessment mark is moderated using the course group’s exam performance, while your own exam mark records your exam result. For most examined courses, the reported HSC mark is the average of the assessment and exam marks.

If you believe the rank shown before results is wrong, speak with your school as soon as possible and follow the current NESA review and appeal requirements. Reviews consider whether the correct process was followed; they are not a re-mark of individual school assessment tasks.
